Insights with Taste of 575By: Gerald GrifthIn this “Insights with Taste of 575” segment, I am happy to highlight more restaurants I have had the pleasure of visiting recently. My visits are completely random, and no restaurant has had any input into the views shared in this segment. First Watch - The meal that was worth the wait.I originally attempted a visit to First Watch while heading to an appointment. The place was packed, and I opted to sit at their community table. After a brief time, I realized I was not going to be able to stay to enjoy a meal. On my way out, I let the manager know I could not stay and that I would visit another time. The manager asked that I wait a moment. He then went to his office and returned with a gift card. He apologized for my not being able to stay and asked that I return another time. A few weeks later, I returned with my wife for breakfast.There is something special about receiving service that is beyond what you expect. The manager did not owe me anything due to my scheduling issue, but he expressed his interest in my returning another time and gave me the gift card and the invitation to return. Thank you, First Watch for your excellent service and positive experience.Big Easy BBQ - Some Like it Hot I was invited out to lunch following Sunday service and it turns out, the group wanted to visit Big Easy. Since they are in Taste of 575 and I had not visited before, I jumped at the chance to check the place out.Located in the Hickory Flat area, Big Easy offers a very welcoming setup where everyone was very relaxed and enjoying their time. Our group of about 8 people ordered and it did not take long for our food to arrive hot from the kitchen.Big Easy has a Cajun vibe and likes to spice it up, so if you are looking for tame food that lacks any actual flavor, you may want to take a pass on this one. I opted for the ribs, green beans, and Mac-n-Cheese. Everything was good and I was happy to take some home to share with the family.
TASTEOF575.COM 13The manager was very attentive and making his rounds to make sure everyone was getting what they wanted or needed during their visit. I would happily return for another visit.Aspens Steakhouse - Luxury and a short drive. We recently attended an event at MadLife featuring a cover band for Earth, Wind, and Fire. The event was great and afterwards, we decided to find something to do before heading home. I remembered that I had not had the chance to visit Aspens which sits at the very edge of our covered area.After a short ride, we arrived and were welcomed in and enjoyed a very relaxing appetizer and entree. The service was exceptionally good. It was not crowded when we visited on that Sunday evening. That made it quite easy to enjoy the environment and laidback, yet luxurious, layout of the place.We had calamari, a wedge salad, and their version of bruschetta. The bruschetta was not like anything I have had before. It was loaded with tenderloin, goat cheese, and balsamic glaze, on a toasted baguette. It was delicious. Churras Steakhouse & Bakery - Thanks for the traffic light.I discovered this Brazilian steakhouse while stopped at a traffic light on Chastain Road. I noticed that they had a huge “Open” sign, so I figured they were new. I decided to give them a shot since they were here in The Corridor. I am glad I did. I tried about six versions of their meat, and they were all VERY GOOD. If you like meat, like I do, you will want to check them out.I look forward to returning when I can really take the time to savor more of what they have to offer.
